Once upon a time, then Chief Justice Yong Pung How - in an appeal that he presided - officially ruled that the starting sentence for all molest cases with no aggravating factors, shall be 9 months jail and 3 strokes of the cane
Chief Justice Yong further elaborated that by "no aggravating factors", he meant the simple touching of non extra-private areas such as thigh, shoulder, back etc.
He made it clear that breasts and genitals are extra-private parts and thus the molest of these areas are to be regarded as aggravating factors which warrants a sentence of GREATER than 9 months jail and GREATER than 3 strokes of the cane.
Moreover, when restraint and struggles are involved, these are aggravating factors automatically, even if breasts are not involved, and thus again warrants a sentence of GREATER than 9 months jail and GREATER than 3 strokes of the cane.
Chief Justice Yong stated clearly that unless there are some mitigating factors, no sentence should be lowered than this guideline. He also made it explicit that being educationally subnormal is not even a mitigating factor!
A ruling by the Chief Justice is binding on lower courts.
So, since his ruling, literally hundreds of Singaporean men have been jailed for 9 months and caned 3 times, for the touching of one woman's thigh, with no restraining of the victim. Even mentally-challenged low IQ educationally-subnormal youth are not spared from the caning! Some even have to appeal to the President to override the ruling of the judges!

Fine youngsters who don't give up their seats for the elderly I HAVE been in Singapore for only the past two months. I use the public transport frequently and one thing that I have noticed is that youngsters who occupy the priority seats fail to give up their seats for the elderly, even those armed with heavy bags.
Most of the time, the youngsters are glued to their handheld devices or iPods. I believe the only way (which has kept Singapore straight and running) is to 'fine' them.
But let this be for only a limited period. It will be just a matter of time that the habit of offering seats to the elderly becomes second nature to these youngsters.

Families bid farewell to College Green Tenants vacate Dunearn Road estate to make way for NUS students By Debbie Yong
The Yaps will say goodbye to their College Green home today. The family of five, and another six remaining families, have to vacate the estate off Dunearn Road by the end of this month to make way for new tenants. Petitions by residents to stay on, and meetings with the relevant authorities over the past year, have been unsuccessful.
The 35,000 sq m estate contains 63 pre-war terrace homes which are owned by the Singapore Land Authority and managed by United Premas. Come July, they will be leased to the National University of Singapore. The units will be converted into hostels for about 240 overseas graduate students of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
'It's a great place for children to grow up in. They can roam about freely in nature, as children should,' said market researcher Yap Miew Leng, 32, who has lived there for two years.
About 60 per cent of the estate's residents are Singaporeans, while the rest come from countries such as Australia, the United States and Japan.

She emphasized that the intercessors crying out with repentance and asking for mercy, along with declarations of the Word of God over the land (both written and rhema), released the curse upon the land and the people were spared. It was a plea for intercessors to step up to the plate and continue to press into God for mercy from judgment coming.
In short, Thio Su Mien regards herself as much more than a "Feminist Mentor". She is the Saviour of Singapore - the Singapore Mentor! According to what "she emphasized", if not for her, Singapore would have already been destroyed by earthquakes a few years back!
But luckily for Singapore, there was Thio Su Mien.

And such avoidance is precisely being exterminated from and replaced in that public area!
They demolish a temple under the excuse of land acquisition, but carefully "carved out" the boundary in the acquisition map to spare a Church located just right next door, literally a stone throw away, on the same parcel of land! (recent court case: Jin Long Si), thus effectively exterminate and replace one house of worship with another!
They could have started a completely brand-new organisation (and even called it, say, "the new AWARE"), where they can preach their anti-gay religious view to their hearts' content. But no, they won't do that, because that will allow us to co-exist side-by-side with them. To summarise, this then, is the issue - Do you want religious intolerance supported formally by legal means (section 377A, closure of public roads by public law-enforcer for preaching purpose via religous songs and drama, selective land acquisition, one-sided Sedition Law etc)?
Or, would you prefer a diverse Singapore with multi-race, multi-language, multi-religion, multi-sexual orientation, and yes, multi-political views?
Take your pick. PAP for the former, Alternative Parties for the latter.
Whatever you choose, just remember, this is not about AWARE (symptom) but a much greater underlying disease (anti-diversity and religious intolerance) propped up by PAP, directly or indirectly, as explained above, and this will have impact on Singapore's future.
Singapore need diversity to survive and to prosper! Religious intorance should not be condoned in Singapore. Especially not when it is supported by the government!

Acknowledged. We (Eugene and I) had quite a bit of talk on this issue over dinner today.
Right now we should pray for the COOS members who are being put through scrutiny and invasion of their private lives by the media. Pray that God's Word will prevail over the values of the world. The media seems to have taken a strong stance against my church and this email is to update you all on the church's position, which the senior pastor has kept mum about, but we would be expecting his comments in church tomorrow.

Our nation needs your support and action very urgently!
AWARE is an organization that has existed in Singapore for many years. It is a non-profit body dedicated to women's advocacy and gender equality. They protect women's rights and help develop women to their fullest potential.
In the last few years, AWARE has aggressively become involved in gayactivism. Many members of their committee are pro-gay. They have even conducted a sexual education programme in some schools that teach young people that it is normal and alright to behave homosexually. They have also screened a lesbian-themed movie Spider Lilies at a Charity Ball.
During this week, AWARE held an election of office bearers. This event saw many of the pro-gay old guards losing their positions in the committee to new faces. These new people do not share the values of the pro-gay old guards and has caused much shock and rage to the latter group.
The pro-gay old guards are retaliating by calling for an Extraordinary General Meeting where they intend to amend the Constitution to only allow members who have been with AWARE for more than 2 years, to vote. If this change is passed, then only the pro-gay old guards and their cohorts will have the power to do what they want.
To prevent this from happening, we are calling on all responsible females to sign up for membership with AWARE immediately, and also to attend this all-important EGM so as to vote against changing the Constitution.
If you are male and have received this petition, please pass it to as many responsible females as you know and encourage them to sign up for membership with AWARE so as to vote against any changes to their Constitution.
The date for the EGM has yet to be announced but it should be soon. Membership fees are $40 for adult females and $5 for female fulltime students below the age of 25. Please print the attached softcopy of the membership form, fill in the details (no need to tell who referred you), mail the form with your cheque.

RAG-AND-BONE man Ng Kim Ngweng was sentenced to six months' jail on Monday after he was convicted of threatening to cause hurt to a Member of Parliament.
By the way, being a peasant is not the worst crime in Singapore. The worst crime is if you were a peasant who owed the government money! That's the most heinous crime - much much worse than killing someone:
A BUSINESSMAN who fraudulently evaded duty as well as goods and services tax (GST) on car imports totalling $145,181 has been fined $1.4 million. As Toh Chee Wee, 36, could not pay the fines, he will serve a default sentence of 100 weeks in jail.
Bottomline: Don't ever, ever, owe the government any money. On the other hand, if you are able to bring in money for the government, be it officially or unofficially (eg. in the form of a "charitable" organisation having $600 million reserves), you will be spared even if the public is outraged by your golden tap and first-class air travel!
Moral of the story: Pay your protection money now, peasants! For example, if you were a "religious" leader getting paid too much money, you can try building a multi million-dollar building in partnership with some government-owned building company. That will offer you some protection. The stupidest thing you can do as a "religious" leader is the opposite: pay your assistant lots of money and give him supplementary credit cards AND then not paying any protection money to the government! That's penny-wise, pound foolish. You will end up being made an example for all peasants to see! We are witnessing that in court right now. Mark my words: the sentence will be severe, more severe than T.T. Durai's - we gotta teach the peasants a lesson they will never ever forget: to repeat, PAY YOUR PROTECTION MONEY!
That's "justice" for you, Singapore-style!

Nude couple charged By Elena Chong A COUPLE who caused a stir by strolling down naked along Lorong Mambong earlier this year were charged in court on Thursday.
Jan Philip, 21, a Swedish student on exchange programme, and Eng Kai Er, 24, a university student in Sweden, are accused of appearing nude in public at Holland Village at about 11pm on Jan 24....As Philip is a foreigner, he was offered bail of $5,000 but Eng, a Singaporean, need not post bail. Philip's passport was impounded.

Eng Kai Er is an A*Star's National Science Scholarship (NSS) recipient of 2007, currently doing her Ph.D. in Infection Biology at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.
Her face is on A*Star's website! (true as of 9 Apr 09. Let's see if A*Star will remove the photos to cover its backside and to make its scholar and its scholarship selection committee looks good.)
